Tragic Loss: Remembering the Actor from 1923
Cole Brings Plenty, who portrayed Pete Plenty Clouds in 1923, tragically passed away in April 2024 in Kansas City, Missouri, at the young age of 27. His family filed a missing persons report just a month earlier following an incident of alleged domestic violence, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. The cause of death remains undisclosed at this time, leaving many in shock and mourning.
Following this heartbreaking event, actor Jeremy Gauna stepped into the role of Pete Plenty Clouds, bringing his own talent to the character. Gauna has previously appeared in the other Yellowstone spinoff series, 1883, as well as in projects like American Primeval, The Last Son, and The Harbinger. In a heartfelt interview with the Los Angeles Times in 2025, Gauna shared that he and Plenty were “close friends, and it all started through social media,” highlighting the deep bond they shared.
“We would talk on a daily basis,” Gauna reminisced about his friendship with Plenty. “I would hear his struggles in life and hear the joy about what was to come with 1923. He was incredibly excited for this role and could hardly believe he would be featured in every episode. It’s difficult to comprehend the reality of such a tragic loss.”
Gauna also recounted the moment he received the offer to take over Plenty’s role, describing it as “a very difficult call to receive, but it was also bittersweet.” He understood the weight of the situation and the importance of honoring his friend’s legacy.
“I also got to honor my really good friend and his family,” Gauna stated, emphasizing the responsibility he felt in paying tribute to Plenty. “I’m not doing it for the accolades. I’m doing it to ensure that everyone remembers and honors him. I recognize my purpose in this, and Cole has been with me throughout the entire process.”

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, series star Brandon Sklenar revealed in 2024 that season 2 would be the final installment of 1923. “It’s bookended.
