This film is the fourth installment in the Bad Boys franchise. After directing the third film, Bad Boys for Life (2020), Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah returned to direct the fourth movie. Chris Bremner also returned as a writer, co-writing the script alongside Will Beall.
In addition to the franchise’s lead stars, Bad Boys: Ride or Die features returning cast members Joe Pantoliano, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Núñez, Jacob Scipio, and Vanessa Hudgens. New cast members include Rhea Seehorn, Melanie Liburd, Ioan Gruffudd, and Eric Dane.
The story continues after the events of Bad Boys for Life. Mike and Marcus embark on a mission to prove their late captain, Conrad Howard, was innocent of corruption and collusion with cartels. Their investigation uncovers a conspiracy deeply rooted within law enforcement.
After its debut at Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on May 22, 2024, Bad Boys: Ride or Die was released globally on June 7, 2024. With a reported budget of $90-$100 million, the movie grossed approximately $404 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.
Despite its box office success, the film received a mixed critical reception. It garnered an average score of 65% on Rotten Tomatoes; however, audiences rated it much higher with an average user rating of 96% on the same platform.
The Bad Boys franchise also spawned a spin-off series titled L.A.’s Finest. This series aired on the Spectrum network and starred Gabrielle Union alongside Jessica Alba. It ran for two seasons before being canceled in 2020.
