’90s Rock Album Adam Sandler Cherished Listening To

We all have our favorite records that we continually revisit, and during a recent interview, actor/comedian Adam Sandler recalled a period in the ’90s when he frequently listened to Hole’s Live Through This album.

The question arose as he and current Jay Kelly co-star George Clooney fielded inquiries from NME. Toward the end of the interview, both actors were asked to name an album they always returned to.

Adam Sandler’s Appreciation for Hole’s ‘Live Through This’

After a moment of thought, Sandler chose the Courtney Love-led band Hole and their 1994 release, Live Through This, as his go-to record.

“I remember I was on tour. I was doing standup, and that album had just come out. I was in my car a lot, and I listened to track one and thought, ‘Ooh, that was nasty.’ Track two had me thinking, ‘two for two.’ Then I realized, ‘I guess this whole album is going to be great.’”

This timing coincided with Sandler’s tenure as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, having released his first comedy album, They’re All Gonna Laugh at You, a year earlier.

However, his love for the album eventually extended beyond road trips between shows, as Sandler later attended a Hole concert in person.

“I saw [Hole] when I was in Missouri. I had a standup gig, and afterward a friend said, ‘You should come over to such and such theater. Hole’s on.’ I was like, ‘Hole is here? Let’s go.’ I went over there, and Drew Barrymore was dating the guitarist at the time. I remember sitting way in the back; the show was incredible. When Drew came out, they introduced her, and I thought, ‘I know that girl,’ making it a cool night.”

Sandler co-starred with Barrymore in the 1998 romantic comedy The Wedding Singer, and they later reunited on screen in 50 First Dates and Blended. At one point in the ’90s, Barrymore dated Hole’s guitarist Eric Erlandson before they split in 1996.

George Clooney Chooses a Classic

While Sandler’s choice was more contemporary, George Clooney mentioned that he often revisits a legendary album from the ’60s. His selection was The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

“There’s not a bad track on it,” the actor shared with NME, adding that “the way we thought about things changed and the music changed.”

Clooney also noted that his wife often recognizes songs from the album, but they are usually covers by other artists.

Both Sandler and Clooney have been receiving Oscar buzz for their new film, Jay Kelly, which is currently streaming on Netflix.
