’90s Rockers Sugar Set for Possible Reunion?

It has been some time, but could we be seeing a reunion of the Bob Mould-led ’90s band Sugar in 2025 or 2026?

It certainly appears that something is happening as the band’s social media accounts have suddenly become active for the first time in a long while, featuring a pair of teasers.

Currently, the two teasers each last 11 seconds and showcase music from two songs off their acclaimed Copper Blue album. The first clip shows a camera moving around the concert stage without focusing on any single object while the opening of the band’s album closing track “Man on the Moon” plays.

The second clip seems more straightforward, displaying an enthusiastic outdoor concert audience before the camera pans toward the stage. In this video, the opening notes of “Hoover Dam” can be heard.

These teasers can be found on their Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Threads, Bluesky, and YouTube accounts. Take a closer look below.

What Could This Mean?

Sugar’s ’90s era was brief. The band was active from 1992 to 1995, with their last concert performance occurring in 1995. Those doing the math will note that this marks the 30th anniversary of the band’s final year. That same year, they released the b-sides collection Besides.

Mould has concentrated more on his solo career since Sugar was active but revisited the Copper Blue album in its entirety during a 2012 tour.

With both teasers hinting at live performances, there is a possibility of a reunion tour.

Given that the teasers have also focused on songs from the Copper Blue album, there is also a chance that a reissue could be forthcoming. That album was released in 1992 and was one of two original full-length studio albums, along with an EP and a B-sides compilation released during their time together.

Who Was Sugar?

Bob Mould was the most recognizable member of the band. He had previously fronted Husker Du during the ’80s before embarking on a solo career. He sang and played guitar in the group. The trio also included bassist David Barbe, who had played in Mercyland, and drummer Malcolm Travis, whose previous work was with Human Sexual Response.

Throughout their career, the band achieved their most success with singles like “Helpless” from Copper Blue (No. 5, Alternative Airplay) and “Your Favorite Thing” from File Under: Easy Listening (No. 14, Alternative Airplay). The video for “If I Can’t Change Your Mind” also received significant airplay on MTV.

Stay tuned to see what comes of the Sugar teasers.
