91% RT Comedy With The Bear Star Exiting Netflix Soon

A 2023 teen comedy, starring The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri, is departing from Netflix at the end of this month. Starring Edebiri and Rachel Sennott in the lead roles, Bottoms follows friends PJ and Josie as they set up a fake fight club with the hope that it will help them lose their virginities.

Bottoms leaving Netflix this month

The 2023 dark comedy, Bottoms, is leaving Netflix on February 27, 2026, according to Tudum.

The movie debuted in theaters on August 25, 2023, and received favorable reviews from both critics and audiences. Bottoms currently has a 91% Tomatometer score and 89% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. On Metacritic, it holds a score of 74 from 46 critics and 6.9 from 132 user ratings.

Bottoms was initially released in only 10 theaters, as reported by Deadline. With positive reviews in its favor, the movie gradually expanded to 1,265 theaters. By the end of its run, it earned $12.9 million at the box office.

Emma Seligman directed the movie and co-wrote its screenplay with Sennott. The duo had previously collaborated on the 2020 comedy Shiva Baby, which also received an overwhelmingly positive response.

Despite their success with Shiva Baby, Seligman and Sennott reportedly faced multiple rejections while pitching Bottoms before landing a deal. In an interview in August 2013, Seligman mentioned that she believed several studios passed on the script due to its bold and female-centric themes.

The two eventually collaborated with Orion Pictures and Brownstone Productions. Additionally, Elizabeth Banks, Max Handelman, and Alison Smal also joined as co-producers. Amazon’s Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures served as the film’s distributor. The movie also stars Ruby Cruz, Havana Rose Liu, Kaia Gerber, Nicholas Galitzine, and Miles Fowler, among others, in prominent roles.

The official logline for the film reads: “Unpopular best friends PJ and Josie start a high school self-defense club to meet girls and lose their virginity. They soon find themselves in over their heads when the most popular students start beating each other up in the name of self-defense.”
