Adolescence Season 2 Update Offers Fans a Reality Check

Few shows were as impressive and as vital in 2025 as Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham‘s one-shot masterpiece, Adolescence. A series that not only topped the Netflix charts in most countries around the world but also ushered in a political movement that reached the highest levels of the British government, the show’s depiction of a teenage boy’s murder of a young female classmate and the ripple effects it has on those around him were both shocking and horrifyingly true-to-life.

Watched for more than 555 million hours in the past year, and the winner of four Golden Globes at the most recent ceremony, Adolescence is a hit with both audiences and critics. That’s why it came as little surprise when most began discussing the show’s renewal chances, despite being advertised as a standalone miniseries. Hope for a second season was given a recent boost when star and co-creator Graham hinted back in January that there could very well be a return to Adolescence, saying, “I cannot answer that question because it’s somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind and Jack’s mind, and we’ll pull it out in three or four years, so stay tuned.”

However, the other half of the show’s masterminds, Thorne, has now debunked Graham’s statement in an interview, leaving many disappointed. “I love Stephen Graham, but sometimes…” he said whilst laughing, continuing, “What I can tell you is, we don’t know what that is so. So, maybe. When he said it, I think he said ‘the dark recesses of our brains’. Yeah, but they are still in the dark recesses of our brains. There is no story where they’re like, ‘Oh yeah’.” Thorne continued:

“My step-sister-in-law phoned last night, and was like, ‘so you’re doing one about prisons?’ And I was like, ‘No, we’re not doing one about prisons. We’re not doing one about prisons at all’. No, we don’t have a story. So yes, maybe, but, you know.”

‘Adolescence’s Breakout Star Is About to Make His Big-Screen Debut

Of all the many impressive aspects of Adolescence, few were as jaw-dropping as the central performance of newcomer Owen Cooper, who has since won numerous awards, including a Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy. For those heading to the theater this weekend to catch Wuthering Heights, you’ll be able to see Cooper’s big-screen debut alongside the likes of Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.
