Alice Cooper Group Reunites for First Album in 50 Years

The legendary Alice Cooper group—distinct from the solo artist—has officially declared the release of their first new studio album in over half a century. This exciting new project, titled The Revenge of Alice Cooper, is set to drop on July 25 and features all four remaining original members: the charismatic lead vocalist Alice Cooper, talented guitarist Michael Bruce, skillful bassist Dennis Dunaway, and dynamic drummer Neal Smith. Notably, the album will also showcase a special contribution from the late guitarist Glen Buxton, who passed away in 1997, on the track “What Happened to You,” which is creatively based on a riff from one of his vintage demo tapes.

In a recent interview with Billboard, Alice Cooper expressed that reuniting with his bandmates felt incredibly natural. He remarked, “It was very much like this was our next album after [1973’s] Muscle of Love. Isn’t that amusing after 50 years? Suddenly, everything just falls into place.” This highlights the seamless chemistry and camaraderie that still exists among the band members after all these years.

The iconic band made their debut in 1969 with the album Pretties for You and subsequently released a series of classic records, including the beloved 1972 hit School’s Out and the groundbreaking 1973 album Billion Dollar Babies, before disbanding in 1974.

After the group’s split, Alice Cooper transitioned by legally adopting the name Alice Cooper for his solo career. He went on to release the iconic Welcome to My Nightmare in 1975 and has successfully maintained a thriving solo career that continues to captivate audiences to this day.

Another pivotal figure returning for this project is renowned producer Bob Ezrin, who has been a longtime collaborator with Alice Cooper. Ezrin previously worked with the band on their memorable albums, including Love It to Death and Killer, as well as the iconic School’s Out and Billion Dollar Babies. His extensive experience and creative vision have significantly shaped the sound of Alice Cooper throughout the years.

“On this album, it felt much more like a cohesive band effort, where each of us had a meaningful say,” Alice Cooper shared regarding the recording sessions for The Revenge…. “It wasn’t just my albums anymore. I didn’t have the final say; instead, each member contributed equally, and that’s how we’ve always approached our music.” This collaborative spirit underscores the essence of the band’s revival.

The surviving members have reunited with Alice Cooper for several tracks on three of his last four solo studio albums: 2011’s Welcome 2 My Nightmare, 2017’s Paranormal, and 2021’s Detroit Stories, showcasing their enduring musical bond.

Recently, Alice Cooper and his exceptional touring band announced an exciting co-headlining tour alongside Judas Priest. This highly anticipated tour is slated to kick off on September 16 in Biloxi, Mississippi, and will wrap up on October 26 in Houston, promising a thrilling experience for fans of both iconic acts.

In his conversation with Billboard, Alice Cooper expressed openness to the idea of performing live with the original band again, given the right circumstances. “I don’t envision it being a full-fledged tour… but I could see it happening in select cities—like Detroit, New York, L.A., or London—where we might do a special performance lasting half an hour or 40 minutes in a more intimate venue. We always keep these possibilities open, and if it seems doable, we pursue it.” This sentiment emphasizes their willingness to connect with fans on a deeper level.
