Allison Lanier — the immensely talented actress who has captured audiences as Summer Newman on The Young and the Restless for the past three years — made a stunning announcement on Wednesday, revealing her decision to depart from the beloved CBS soap drama.

The character has seen myriad storylines and developments, making her a significant part of the show’s fabric.
In 2024, Lanier received a nomination for a Daytime Emmy for her compelling performance, contending for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series award, although she ultimately lost to her colleague Courtney Hope.
Taking over the revered character from Hunter King, who had portrayed Summer on and off since 2012 and earned two Daytime Emmys for her exceptional work in 2014 and 2015, Lanier stepped into a role with a rich history. Prior to King, Summer was brought to life by Lindsay Bushman, Samantha Bailey, and several twin child actors, including Elara and Rhea Kerwin, and Bianca and Chiara D’Ambrosio, showcasing the character’s evolving portrayal over the years.

With Lanier’s exit, she joins the ranks of Colleen Zenk, who also departed from The Young and the Restless. Zenk, a veteran actress recognized for her long tenure on As the World Turns, made her exit in a dramatic way after just a year on the show, famously by consuming a teacup filled with crushed sleeping pills in a January episode.
