Ana de Armas Faces an Obsessive Fan in New Thriller

Academy Award nominee Ana de Armas has officially signed on for the leading role in the upcoming psychological thriller Sweat. This marks the acclaimed actress’s latest project following her starring role in last year’s John Wick spin-off movie Ballerina.

What do we know about Ana de Armas’ Sweat movie?

According to Deadline, Sweat will be directed by J Blakeson (I Care A Lot), based on Swedish-Polish director Magnus von Horn’s 2020 film of the same name. Blakeson is also set to produce for Crimple Beck, along with Guy Stodel for Rosto Inc. and AGC Chairman and CEO Ford. The psychological thriller will be financed and co-produced by AGC Studios. Production is scheduled to begin on March 30, 2026, and will take place in Los Angeles and the UK.

“The film follows a rising fitness influencer, Emma Kent (de Armas), who dreams of matching the success of her idol, social media superstar Kat Highbrook,” reads the movie’s synopsis. “Her carefully curated world begins to collapse when an encounter with Kat goes horribly wrong, and she is forced into a dangerous arrangement with Trent, an obsessive fan. His unhinged devotion pushes her to choose how far she’s willing to go for fame.”

Last November, it was reported that de Armas was in the final negotiations to join Cameron Diaz and Benicio del Toro in the upcoming movie Reenactment. It will be directed by Grant Singer, who’s best known for his 2023 directorial debut movie Reptile. Besides Ballerina, she was also recently seen starring in Ron Howard’s survival thriller, Eden, with Vanessa Kirby and Sydney Sweeney.
