Earlier this week, Apple TV finally announced that the long-awaited fifth season of For All Mankind would return on March 27. It had been well over two years since Apple TV had released an episode of its criminally underrated sci-fi show, and fans had begun to question whether it had been stealthily canceled. However, we now know that the show is coming back soon, and fans are rushing back to Apple TV to catch up on everything from the first four seasons — or check it out for the first time. This has led For All Mankind back into the Apple TV global top 10, though it’s still trailing Rebecca Ferguson‘s Silo.
The fifth season of For All Mankind will be set years after the Season 4 finale in the aftermath of the Goldilocks asteroid heist. Happy Valley has since grown into a thriving colony for the first time in its existence, but with the nations of Earth now calling for law and order on the Red Planet, friction builds, and things reach a boiling point between the people of Mars and their former home. Joel Kinnaman, Toby Kebbell, and Edi Gathegi are all returning to star in For All Mankind Season 5, and the show was created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi.
For All Mankind is widely viewed as the sci-fi show that kicked off the renaissance that’s still going on Apple TV to this day. It’s the first big sci-fi show the streamer ever released, and it helped them break into the genre which it’s now best known for. Apple TV has released multiple seasons of some of its most popular shows, like Severance, Foundation, and Invasion, but its latest creation is the most popular of them all.
What Is Apple TV’s Biggest Sci-Fi Show?
The most popular sci-fi show in Apple TV’s history is Pluribus, which comes from Breaking Bad writer Vince Gilligan. The show was easily one of the most anticipated of the year for Apple TV in 2025, and it shattered all of Severance’s records to officially become the most-watched sci-fi series in the platform’s history. Apple TV has confirmed that a second season of Pluribus, starring Rhea Seehorn, is in the works. However, it’s unlikely to be released before the end of 2026.
