ARIA Charts Enter a New Era in Australia

Sabrina Carpenter marks her place in chart history as the first leader on the newly launched ARIA Albums Chart, with Man’s Best Friend soaring to No. 1.

As previously noted, ARIA, the national trade body for labels and charts compiler, has implemented a significant overhaul of its official chart methodology aimed at enhancing visibility for new music and Australian releases, as well as revitalizing a frequently stagnant albums tally.

The primary change involves moving titles that are two years or older from the main weekly charts to a new dedicated catalogue chart called ARIA On Replay.

Today marks the day, and the revamped albums chart presents a fresh appearance.

Carpenter’s Man’s Best Friend jumps to No. 1, surpassing the soundtrack of the Netflix film Kpop Demon Hunters and Stray Kids’ KARMA, in that order.

Under the new chart system, the ARIA Albums Chart introduces 17 new entries and 45 re-entries into the top 100, while only 38 titles from last week remain in this frame.

The changes, as explained by ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd earlier this year, “will create space in all charts for new music and new Australian music.” She further stated, “What we believe we are doing is providing more information to artists, the industry, and listeners of both new and older music.”

The latest tally published on Friday, Sept. 5, includes five Australian titles, featuring new releases from The Wolfe Brothers (Australian Made at No. 9) and Hayley Jensen (Country Soul at No. 14).

On the ARIA Singles Chart, “Golden” from the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack continues its reign for six consecutive weeks. “Golden” matches PSY’s 2012 hit Gangnam Style as the longest-running No. 1 by a Korean artist, according to ARIA.

In addition, the first No. 1 on ARIA’s Top 5 On Replay Albums tally is Sabrina Carpenter’s collection from 2022 Emails I Can’t Send, while the first leader on ARIA’s Top 5 On Replay Singles survey is Goo Goo Dolls’ Iris, originally released in 1998.
