Ariana DeBose will take center stage as Geneviève in the highly anticipated major New York City production of the seldom-performed musical The Baker’s Wife, a remarkable gem in the theatre world.
This enchanting musical, crafted nearly 50 years ago by the acclaimed Stephen Schwartz, well-known for his work on Wicked, has yet to grace the Broadway stage. Despite its absence from Broadway, the show has garnered a loyal following over the decades, especially due to the signature song “Meadowlark,” which is frequently hailed as one of the finest pieces in the musical theatre canon.
In a quaint French village, the lives of a baker and his wife unfold as they serve fresh bread alongside a side of intriguing gossip. However, when irresistible temptation arises and hearts begin to stray, the entire community becomes entangled in a whirlwind of romance, playful mischief, and delightful melodies.
Classic Stage Company has officially announced that Ariana will star in this thrilling off-Broadway production, scheduled to run from October 23 to December 14 at the esteemed CSC’s Lynn F. Angelson Theater. A comprehensive performance schedule, along with details on additional casting and the full creative team, will be unveiled in the near future. This production features a book by Fiddler on the Roof writer Joseph Stein and will be helmed by the talented director Gordon Greenberg.
