Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Highest-Earning Movie Revealed

When considering the financial success of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s film career, many might mistakenly believe that his most profitable role emerged from one of the action-packed Terminator sequels. However, during an insightful segment on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Schwarzenegger disclosed that his highest earnings actually stemmed from his role in the beloved 1988 comedy Twins, which featured the comedic talents of Danny DeVito alongside him.

Schwarzenegger candidly explained, “It was Twins because we had gotten no money, no salary,” emphasizing the unique financial strategy behind the project. “but ownership with a piece of the back end. And it was fantastic. We went all the way to the bank with that one.” While he refrained from disclosing the specific amount, he confidently stated it exceeded $40 million. “It was more than in any movie I’ve ever made.

As Arnold Schwarzenegger pointed out, his decision to forgo a salary for Twins was a strategic move aimed at persuading the studio to allow him to take on a comedic role. “They were like, ‘No, we know we are going to make money with you if you do action movies,’” he recounted in an interview with Business Insider in 2019. “Literally for ‘Twins’ I took no salary — I just wanted to give it a shot. And it just happened to be my first movie to make $100 million domestic. So they realized that it works, Schwarzenegger can cross over.“ This pivotal moment not only showcased his versatility as an actor but also paved the way for future comedic roles in his career.

Schwarzenegger and DeVito were slated to reprise their roles in a long-awaited sequel titled Triplets, which would have introduced Eddie Murphy as the third brother. However, plans changed, and Tracy Morgan stepped in to replace Murphy. Unfortunately, the project’s future became uncertain and was ultimately shelved following the passing of director Ivan Reitman, leaving fans disappointed and eagerly awaiting any updates on the beloved duo’s comedic return.

Currently, Arnold Schwarzenegger is taking on a new role in the second season of FUBAR, which is available for streaming on Netflix. Despite the actor’s star power, the show has garnered a mix of reviews. Our own Alex Maidy expressed a sentiment shared by many viewers, stating that the series “should and could be so much better. There is a fun concept buried in this series that deserves a chance to shine, and that would take a higher budget and better writers than what we have here.” Looking ahead, if FUBAR is renewed for a third season, Maidy hopes it will “softly reboot itself into a better show.” For those interested, you can find the full review linked here.
