Cooper Hoffman has officially joined Andrew Garfield in the highly anticipated film Artificial, directed by Luca Guadagnino for Amazon MGM Studios. The story unfolds during a turbulent chapter at OpenAI in 2023, capturing the dramatic events surrounding the firing and subsequent rehiring of CEO Sam Altman within just a few days. Starring Andrew Garfield, known for his role in We Live in Time, the film will also feature Yura Borisov as Ilya Sutskever, a co-founder who played a pivotal role in the controversial decision to oust Altman. Additionally, Cooper Koch from Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will take on a significant role, while Monica Barbaro from A Complete Unknown is currently in discussions to portray Mira Murati, the chief technology officer. Furthermore, Ike Barinholtz is in talks to play Elon Musk, adding another layer of intrigue to the cast.
The screenplay for Artificial is crafted by Simon Rich, known for his work on Miracle Workers. Rich will also serve as a producer alongside David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford from Heyday Films, as well as Jennifer Fox, ensuring a strong production team behind this innovative project.
Initially, Luca Guadagnino was set to direct Sgt. Rock for DC Studios this summer, but due to delays in that project, he was able to pivot quickly to Artificial. Recently, James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, expressed his excitement about the direction of the project, although he confirmed that Guadagnino is no longer attached to Sgt. Rock.
In addition to his role in Artificial, Cooper Hoffman is set to star in The Long Walk, a cinematic adaptation of the iconic Stephen King novel. The narrative is set in a dystopian version of the United States governed by a totalitarian regime and revolves around a group of young men participating in a harrowing annual walking contest. These contestants must maintain a speed of four miles per hour without stopping, or face execution, resulting in a gripping battle for survival until only one remains. Directed by Francis Lawrence, the cast includes David Jonsson from Alien: Romulus, Garrett Wareing from Ransom Canyon, Tut Nyuot from The Witcher: Blood Origin, Charlie Plummer from National Anthem, Ben Wang from American Born Chinese, Jordan Gonzalez from Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, Joshua Odjick from Welcome to Derry, Roman Griffin Davis from Jojo Rabbit, and Judy Greer from Halloween. Notably, Mark Hamill, a legend from the Star Wars franchise, takes on the role of the Major overseeing the contest. This highly anticipated film is scheduled to hit theaters on September 12.
