She disclosed that she wrote a lengthy note in purple ink, placed it in an envelope, and dropped it off at a restaurant she believed he frequented. Additionally, she admitted that she could not remember the exact content of the message.
Sigourney Weaver discusses the letter she wrote to John Lennon on The Late Show
During her chat with Colbert, he inquired if Weaver had ever asked a celebrity for an autograph. She confessed that she was too shy to ask for one but did write a special message to Lennon.
She recounted, “I wrote a several-page letter on lavender stationery with purple ink. ‘Dear John.’ It was like five pages front and back. I folded it up, put it in an envelope, and dropped it off at this restaurant that I heard he went to.” Weaver struggled to recall the specifics of her letter but hoped the restaurant had disposed of it.
Colbert also asked Weaver about the first concert she attended featuring The Beatles. She replied that she witnessed their inaugural performance at the Hollywood Bowl in 1961. Colbert double-checked the year, as he believed it occurred in 1964. Struggling to confirm the date, Weaver mentioned that all she remembered was being 12 years old when she first saw the band.
Reflecting on her concert experience, she added, “Girls were screaming all around me. You couldn’t hear [the Beatles] at all.” Colbert then displayed a photo of Weaver enjoying the band’s performance at the concert, which was also included in the documentary The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years.
