Avatar Aang Returns in First Look at New Last Airbender Movie

The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender is just less than a year away, bringing the beloved franchise to the big screen for the first time since M. Night Shyamalan‘s notorious live-action adaptation. Now we finally have a first glimpse of Aang, the titular Last Airbender, but as an adult. This upcoming Avatar feature will bring back Team Avatar from Avatar: The Last Airbender, but all grown up, and this latest sneak peek teases how much this kid has grown before the era of Korra.

Flying Bark animator Tamas Pazmany (@pazmanyt) shared an Instagram Stories crew shirt featuring an adult Aang. The animator joined the project on June 5, and according to the social media post, they only joined at the end of production. This aged-up Aang is different from how he appears in The Legend of Korra. He doesn’t have facial hair, and he seems to resemble his younger self before becoming a parent.

In Avatar: The Last Airbender, Aang was only 10 years old when he was found on an iceberg in the South Pole. Meanwhile, The Legend of Korra took place 70 years after the end of the 100-year war and died at age 66 (or 166 if you count the years he was frozen in ice). The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender will take place between the two TV shows, where Team Avatar were young adults. Starring in the feature are Eric Nam as Aang, Román Zaragoza as Sokka, Jessica Matten as Katara, Dionee Quan as Toph Beifong, Steven Yeun as Zuko, and Dave Bautista as an unnamed villain.

What Other Avatar Projects Are Being Worked On?

Adult-Aang

The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender isn’t the only thing that’s being worked on in terms of Avatar-related content. There’s also a new TV show in the works called Avatar: Seven Havens, set to debut in 2027. The show is set after The Legend of Korra and introduces a new Avatar, an Earthbender named Pavi.

Meanwhile, there’s also the live-action Netflix adaptation, which was confirmed to adapt Books 2 and 3. Production for Seasons 2 and 3 began simultaneously in 2024 and 2025, and Netflix has announced that both seasons wrapped up last week. A release date for the show’s next installment has not yet been announced, but new cast members for the live-action fantasy series have been announced.

The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender is scheduled to come out on October 9, 2026. Follow Collider to stay up to date with the latest updates.
