James Cameron is discussing the potential of the next two Avatar films not being produced.

“I don’t know if the saga goes beyond this point. I hope it does,” he told EW earlier this month. “But, you know, we prove that business case every time we go out.”
If they don’t get made, he has a backup plan so fans won’t be left in suspense about what happens – the scripts are fully written, after all.
“Here’s what it is,” James stated. “If we don’t get to make 4 and 5, for whatever reason, I’ll hold a press conference and I’ll tell you what we were going to do. How’s that?”
He also hinted that he would like to adapt the movies into books, which he would write himself.
“There’s so much culture and backstory and lateral detail in these characters that’s been worked out. I’d love to do something that’s at that level of granular detail,” James says, although he acknowledges, “There’s no business model for it anymore. People aren’t reading.”
“But anyway, it might be good to have the canonical record of what it was all supposed to be,” he concludes.
The recently released third film, Avatar: Fire and Ash, has grossed nearly half a billion dollars at the global box office so far.
One of the stars of the film recently discussed a controversial scene.
