Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Nancy Wilson of Heart, Bryan Adams, Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes, and Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac were instrumental in inducting Bad Company into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday night.
Mick Fleetwood delivered the induction speech, expressing his pride when Bad Company’s lead singer Paul Rodgers cited Fleetwood Mac as one of his early inspirations.
“Paul is the voice that every rock singer holds as their north star,” he stated. “Listening to a Bad Company song is to experience a once-in-a-lifetime voice elevating rock music. … Bad Company was rooted in the blues while also crafting uniform, unforgettable pop melodies. They played a key role in shaping the future of rock music.”
Robinson, Wilson, and Perry initiated the musical segment of the induction with a powerful rendition of “Feel Like Makin’ Love,” after which Robinson passed the microphone to Adams for “Can’t Get Enough.”
Following the performance, drummer Simon Kirke, the only founding member present, accepted his trophy from Fleetwood and praised his bandmates, trying to hold back tears while remembering late members Mick Ralphs and Boz Burrell.
Rodgers, the other surviving member from the original lineup alongside Kirke, recently announced he would be unable to attend or perform at the ceremony due to health issues.
The singer has suffered over a dozen major and minor strokes in the last decade. “I have no problem singing; it’s the stress of everything else,” he clarified. “Thank you for your understanding.”
Bad Company guitarist Mick Ralphs passed away this June at age 81 after a stroke in 2016 ended his touring career. Founding bassist Boz Burrell died in 2006.
