Basilisk Easter Egg Discovered in Hogwarts Legacy Castle

Hogwarts Legacy fans have made numerous discoveries over the years, digging deep into the game’s caverns and castles in search of lore tidbits and Easter eggs.

This discovery, highlighted on Reddit, is deeply entwined with the Harry Potter world at large and is arguably one of the biggest tie-ins to the series proper.

Key Insights from Hogwarts Legacy

Exploring Inside Hogwarts Itself

Hogwarts Legacy 2025-01-20 7_20_37 PM

When playing through Hogwarts Legacy, you can come across Slytherin’s Scriptorium, a private chamber previously inhabited by Salazar Slytherin. In it, you can dig into diary entries that describe the trials and tribulations of the founders of the famous Harry Potter houses, and how they eventually split.

There, you can read a note that ties directly into the Wizarding World lore. Here’s the full transcript:

“I tire of the discord and can no longer bear witness to the corridors full of inept children masquerading as witches and wizards. It is with a heavy heart that I know now I must go from here. I shall place the creature into a deep sleep in its chamber until it can be awakened by one who shares my views: a descendant willing to reverse the damage that the others have so carelessly wrought; one who shall rid the school of those unworthy of Hogwarts that would serve only to stain my legacy.”

For reference, this is heavily explored in the second Harry Potter book (and the second film), The Chamber of Secrets. The basilisk, in both mythological sources inside and outside Harry Potter, turns people to stone if they make indirect eye contact and kills anyone who looks at it directly. In the story, Harry discovers the Chamber, where he squares off against the basilisk with the sword of Godric Gryffindor.

There’s Always Something New To Discover

Is The Game World Vast?

This classic discovery was followed by fans, who urged players to locate another Easter egg that explains how Basilisk eggs are created: “Keep looking, there’s a cave with a corpse, an eggshell, and a note about someone trying to create a basilisk.” If you want to discover this bit on your own, take the Tower Tunnel Floo Flame at southern Marunweem Lake. You can head east into a cave (make sure to burn the roots that block it).

Although this particular Easter Egg has been shared by fans as one of the most far-reaching references, Hogwarts Legacy still has a lot of tricks up its sleeve for newcomers.
