Baywatch reboot stars Stephen Amell as Hobie

It may still be February, but it’s never too early for a trip to the beach. Stephen Amell is ready to hit the sand, as the Arrow star has joined the cast of Fox’s upcoming Baywatch reboot series. Amell is set to play Hobie Buchannon, the role originally portrayed by Brandon Call and Jeremy Jackson in the classic series.

Everything You Need to Know About the Baywatch Reboot

The character description reads: “The wild child Hobie Buchannon is now a Baywatch Captain, following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Mitch (played in the OG series by David Hasselhoff). Hobie’s world is turned upside down when Charlie, the daughter he never knew, shows up on his doorstep, eager to carry on the Buchannon family legacy and become a Baywatch lifeguard alongside her dad.

Matt Nix, executive producer and showrunner of the Baywatch reboot, said, “From the first conversation, Stephen Amell brought exactly what this new chapter of Baywatch demands: heart, intensity, and that undeniable hero energy. He’s the kind of lead who can sprint into danger, carry the emotional weight, and still make it feel fun. We’re so excited to get started.

The reboot has received a 12-episode straight-to-series order and is slated to start shooting this March on L.A.’s Venice Beach and on the FOX Studio Lot in Century City. It will premiere during the 2026-27 season.

It can be easy to dismiss Baywatch nowadays, but at its peak, the original series was the most-watched show in the world. Audiences just couldn’t get enough. The new reboot will “celebrate the franchise’s enduring legacy while re-energizing it for today’s global audience. Fans can expect all the adrenaline-fueled rescues, tangled relationships, complicated chemistry and beachside heroics that defined the original — now with an entirely new cast, contemporary trappings, tensions and challenges, and a renewed mission to protect Southern California’s shoreline.
