Congratulations, furball! Kelsey Grammer has successfully secured his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He has once again stepped into the shoes of Dr. Hank McCoy, famously known as Beast, in The Marvels, which premiered in 2023. This marks a significant return for Grammer, who first portrayed the character in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. Recently, it was confirmed that Grammer will reprise his role for the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday. However, fans shouldn’t hold their breath for any appearances of him in costume at conventions.
In a recent episode of Literally! with Rob Lowe, Grammer shared his experience when he was approached about his return: “During [the making of The Marvels], somebody called me and said, ‘Would you come down and think about just doing a little…motion capture…We’re going to put you at the end of the movie in one of those little easter egg things.” The allure for Grammer was that the character would be portrayed through CGI, eliminating the need for him to undergo the extensive transformation into Beast, which previously required over three hours of makeup during the production of The Last Stand. He humorously remarked that he doesn’t miss the cumbersome process at all. “Years ago, they offered me – it was a sizable chunk of change – to dress up as Beast and put all that crap on again and go walk around [a comic convection]. I said, ‘No, that’s insane!’…I have since done a convention or two,” although those appearances were related to his role in Star Trek, as he made a guest appearance in a season five episode of The Next Generation.
Following the positive reception of his cameo as Beast in The Marvels, the studio reached out to Grammer once more, expressing their desire for him to return in Avengers: Doomsday. What insights can he provide about the forthcoming film? Unfortunately, not much. “I’ve had a preliminary introduction to the idea. They’re still very secretive about the script,” which is par for the course given Marvel’s reputation for keeping their projects tightly under wraps.
Joining Kelsey Grammer’s Beast in Doomsday will be an impressive lineup of fellow X-Men characters, including Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Channing Tatum as Gambit, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler. Excitingly, a standalone X-Men movie is also in the pipeline, with Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier reportedly in talks to direct. Mark your calendars, as Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on May 1st, 2026.
Are you eagerly anticipating the full integration of the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe? What role do you envision for them in the battle against the formidable Doctor Doom?
