Cameron Mathison recently shared his experiences of feeling “hated” during his time as Ryan Lavery on the iconic soap opera All My Children. This conversation took place during his appearance on the popular talk show Live! With Kelly & Mark, hosted by his former co-stars Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, in New York City on April 14.
The 55-year-old actor, known for his multifaceted roles in daytime television, mentioned that he is currently portraying a villainous character on General Hospital, a role that he finds familiar given his past experiences on All My Children.
“You know what, you guys? The only time I have ever played a character that’s been disliked this severely on soap operas in my life — and it’s been a stretch, almost 30 years — was when my character Ryan tried to break up Hayley and Mateo,” Cameron explained, referencing the beloved characters played by Kelly and Mark.
“Do you remember back in the day?” Cameron asked, reminiscing about the intense fan reactions.
He continued with a humorous anecdote, “I had a bus pull over on Columbus Avenue, and the bus driver got off yelling at me saying, ‘Stay away from Hayley!’ I had people hating me! I’m like, ‘I’m a good guy!’” This moment highlights the passionate nature of soap opera fans and their deep emotional investment in the storylines and characters.
