After a significant hiatus from releasing solo music, former Eagles guitarist Bernie Leadon is set to make a triumphant return on July 18 with his highly anticipated new single, “Too Many Memories.” This marks the first time in over two decades that Leadon has shared new material, exciting fans and music enthusiasts alike who have been eagerly awaiting his next move since 2004.

The creative process behind “Too Many Memories” began while Leadon was touring with his former band from 2013 to 2015. This tour represented his first collaboration with the Eagles since their 1998 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. Notably, Leadon had previously departed the band in 1975 under dramatic circumstances, famously pouring a beer over Glenn Frey‘s head during an altercation.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Leadon reflected on his life experiences, stating, “I’ve lived many lifetimes in one lifetime.” He elaborated on his journey across various cities in America, sharing that these diverse experiences have shaped his artistic vision. He expressed the sentiment that the conclusion of “Too Many Memories” symbolizes a necessity to release past burdens and let go of resentment, allowing it to dissipate like “rising fog off the meadow.”

During the recording of “Too Many Memories,” Leadon and renowned producer Glyn Johns collaborated closely, crafting as many as eight songs within just five days. They recorded alongside talented musicians including bassist Glenn Worf, drummer Greg Morrow, and keyboardist Tony Harrell, creating a dynamic and collaborative atmosphere.

Leadon described the creative process as an intimate experience, stating, “We did it all together, sitting in one room, looking at each other, listening to each other.” He emphasized the importance of analog recording, explaining that this method encourages decisive choices during the recording process, fostering a sense of discipline that enhances the overall quality of the music.

While “Too Many Memories” is confirmed for release, Leadon remains uncertain about the future of the other tracks they recorded. He is contemplating whether to release them individually or compile them into a cohesive album. However, he is excited about his upcoming solo performance scheduled for September 12 at Nashville’s City Winery. Despite his positive relationship with the current Eagles members, Leadon has expressed that he is not focused on rejoining the band or making guest appearances.

“I’m just happy that my relationship with the band has been cleaned up,” he remarked. “We stay in touch, and everything’s great, honestly.” This statement reflects Leadon’s maturity and growth, showcasing his ability to cherish past connections while pursuing his own musical journey.
