December has come and gone, and with it has the season of levity and Christmas movies, making way for Prime Video subscribers to venture into a very different direction. After a month of lighter releases, I think the best way to start 2026 with a great selection of Prime Video movies is to go darker with our film binge.
To that end, I have selected three horror movies, one of which is also part of an iconic Sci-Fi franchise, to get the blood pumping with a healthy dose of adrenaline as we enter the new year. 2026’s upcoming movies include quite a few horror and Sci-Fi releases, so I feel like this weekend’s list on Prime Video prepares viewers for what is to come.

Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)
Starting the list is Zombieland: Double Tap, which is the perfect movie to bridge the gap between the lighter Christmas season and January. The film is the sequel to the Zombieland franchise’s hit debut, bringing back the core cast of Woody Harrelson as Tallahassee, Jesse Eisenberg as Columbus, Emma Stone as Wichita, and Abigail Breslin as Little Rock.
The characters’ chemistry is still electric, and seeing them older and more developed after years in the zombie apocalypse is rewarding. With the addition of Zoey Deutch’s Madison, who proves herself a total scene-stealer, the sequel is somehow even funnier than the original film. Also, expect plenty of gory action scenes with zombie guts.

Alien: Romulus (2024)
Like Zombieland: Double Tap, Alien: Romulus also mixes two genres. However, instead of being comedy and horror, the film is part of the Alien franchise, with its Sci-Fi themes helping enhance the scope of the movie and also create an even greater sense of dread when it comes to the horror.
Alien: Romulus is led by one of Hollywood’s hottest up-and-comers, Cailee Spaeny, who is a relatable, driven, and courageous protagonist worthy of holding the torch once held by Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley. For casual Alien fans, Romulus is also a must-watch, as it explains that the Xenomorph from Alien survived.

Final Destination Bloodlines (2025)
Finally, the last movie in our three-film binge is the return of the Final Destination franchise. I had a great time with this franchise growing up, which ranged from being absolutely scared by its gruesome deaths to having fun trying to predict all the intricate ways characters could die or cheat death.
Final Destination Bloodlines does not take itself too seriously, and it ends up being an infinitely enjoyable return for the franchise. Its opening sequence, led by Stargirl‘s Brec Bassinger, is easily one of the best set pieces in the franchise, and the whole movie is a thrill ride. It will leave Prime Video subscribers’ adrenaline high going into the week.
