Best Movies To Watch On Netflix This Weekend (Oct 25-26)

At this point in October, most Netflix subscribers will be looking for horror and Halloween-themed movies to enjoy over the weekend. And while the platform has an abundance of spooky cinema on offer, you’d be tricking yourself out of a treat by not exploring beyond the paranormal.

This weekend’s top picks include a revived horror classic, an overlooked quirky vampire movie, and the perfect comedy for fans of Meet the Parents.

Key Horror Picks for Halloween

Ray at the town meeting in I Know What You Did Last Summer

As the last weekend before Halloween, this is the ideal time to crack out the horror classics. And while Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream and, well, Halloween usually take precedence, I Know What You Did Last Summer is right up there in that conversation. Rather than rewatching one of those horror cornerstones for the 666th time, however, Netflix is now streaming the 2025 I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel.

As horror revivals go, this isn’t The Invisible Man or 2018’s Halloween. But for a Halloween watch with friends, I Know What You Did Last Summer offers a strong blend of scares and ’90s nostalgia, especially with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. among the cast members. It’s not by accident that I Know What You Did Last Summer has arrived on streaming just in time for October 31…

Unique Vampire Comedy: El Conde

There are plenty of traditional vampire flicks to watch this weekend – your Nosferatus and your Draculas – but for something a little more unconventional, El Conde is a true hidden gem. Be forewarned, the premise is odd. A real-life Chilean dictator from history is depicted as a vampire out of his time – and Margaret Thatcher is there too. Fans of What We Do in the Shadows will almost certainly appreciate El Conde‘s unique brand of comedy and horror.

Stylish, amusing and not afraid to pull its punches, El Conde is refreshing if nothing else. And while perhaps not the most accessible crowd-pleaser to fire up during a Halloween party, this witty treasure will be a welcome bite in the neck for any movie fan looking to avoid the usual carousel of genre fare this Halloween.

Comedy Recommendation: About My Father

This curious comedy drew immediate parallels to Meet the Parents, not just because the premise involves an emotionally available man planning to propose to his girlfriend while staying at her parents’ house, but also because Robert De Niro portrays the main character’s dad. That comparison didn’t help About my Father win over critics, and the 2023 release mostly fell under the radar.

But About my Father has something worthwhile beneath the surface. Based on star Sebastian Maniscalco’s real life, he and De Niro forge a sweet father-and-son dynamic in a story that’s ultimately about acceptance. About my Father isn’t a laugh-a-minute classic like Meet the Parents, sure, but there’s an endearing authenticity to it that the reviews don’t necessarily reflect. Certainly worth watching now that Netflix has it available to stream.
