Who is the superior guitar legend — Angus Young or Tony Iommi? This topic is sure to spark some lively discussions! In this week’s Chuck’s Fight Club on the Loudwire Nights radio show, we are comparing the guitarist known for some of the most memorable and iconic riffs in rock with the guitarist who arguably initiated the heavy metal genre.
On one side, we have the legendary Angus Young of AC/DC, a fixture throughout all eras, instantly recognizable for his schoolboy uniform and famous duck walk onstage. Beyond his performance style, he has created some of the most legendary rock riffs in history. Songs like “Back in Black,” “Hells Bells,” “Highway to Hell,” “Thunderstruck,” “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap,” and “You Shook Me All Night Long” come to mind immediately.
On the opposing side is Black Sabbath’s great Tony Iommi, whose distinctive playing style ignited a passion for heavier and darker music among listeners everywhere. Whether it’s “Paranoid,” “Iron Man,” “Into the Void,” “War Pigs,” or “Heaven and Hell,” Tony consistently delivers something extraordinary.
As with all Chuck’s Fight Club battles, Loudwire Nights host Chuck Armstrong will introduce this matchup during the 8 PM hour of Monday’s show. Individual arguments will be presented for both guitarists on Tuesday and Wednesday while you continue to rank each. On Friday, the votes will be counted, and the higher-ranked guitarist will be featured in a Loudwire Nights rock block during the 8 PM hour.
