As <em>Dexter: Resurrection</em> races toward its highly anticipated premiere, featuring Michael C. Hall reprising his role as the iconic vigilante killer, there’s an exciting development brewing behind the scenes beyond just the return of Dexter Morgan. Collider’s Steve Weintraub engaged in an exclusive discussion with showrunners Clyde Phillips and Scott Reynolds to unveil details about the upcoming untitled Trinity Killer prequel series. Fans of John Lithgow’s terrifying antagonist can rejoice that all ten scripts are fully prepared and ready for production.
“It’s completely written,” stated Phillips. “John Lithgow has agreed to do the voice and narrate the series, although it hasn’t been officially picked up yet. We remain optimistic that the success of Resurrection, coupled with the recent approval of Original Sin, will encourage Chris McCarthy and the Paramount team to expand the Dexterverse. However, we’re still awaiting the green light.”
Reynolds emphasized that the storyline is a “hell of a good story,” while Phillips noted its “beautifully written” nature, despite the absence of a green light from Paramount. Both showrunners confirmed that they have ten scripts crafted and poised for production. Indeed, a total of ten meticulously crafted episodes that could potentially become the next major success within the Dexter universe are currently in limbo. Although it hasn’t received an official go-ahead yet, the creative team exhibits notable confidence, especially with Lithgow both committed and set to narrate the unfolding narrative himself.
Will the Trinity Killer Make an Appearance in ‘Dexter: Resurrection’?
This anticipation builds as Lithgow reenters the Dexter franchise with his role in Resurrection, despite the fact that his character is technically deceased. In a prior interview with Variety, Lithgow confirmed that the Trinity Killer’s return will be brief, stating:
“I just went back to do a day. They’re rebooting the entire Michael C. Hall version of Dexter. And it turns out he didn’t die after all. I come back sort of as a phantom, as he gradually comes to life on a hospital bed.”
While it’s uncertain if we will witness more of the Trinity Killer within Dexter’s psychological nightmares, the development of a fully-scripted prequel, narrated by Lithgow, is an exciting prospect. This development indicates that both Paramount+ and Showtime are genuinely committed to expanding the Dexterverse. Regarding Resurrection, the cast features an impressive lineup. Alongside Hall, fans can expect to see performances from notable actors such as Peter Dinklage, Uma Thurman, Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, David Dastmalchian, Eric Stonestreet, and others. Filming commenced back in January, and we are just days away from witnessing Dexter Morgan’s return to our screens.
Dexter: Resurrection is set to premiere on Showtime on July 11, 2025. For further insights, watch our exclusive interview with Clyde Phillips and Scott Reynolds below.
