The Black Ski Weekend in Flagstaff, Arizona, has become a hot topic after a TikTok series accused a Black travel group of setting up participants for an uncomfortable and chaotic getaway. Some travelers claim that the excursions advertised by the group did not match their actual experiences.
But are these allegations valid? And what truly transpired?
The Shade Room’s Justin Carter delves into this on ‘TSR Investigates.’
More About Black Ski Weekend
According to Carter, a woman named Zakiya created a three-part TikTok series detailing what allegedly occurred at Arizona’s Black Ski Weekend, which has garnered over three million views so far. Zakiya claims that an advertisement promised round-trip transportation for $1,500, along with excursions and private suite lodging for her and her husband.
“A suite is very different from a hotel room. A suite typically has a living space and then separate living quarters, and it was advertised for a group of four people,” Zakiya explained to her TikTok audience. “When we arrived, they gave us the rooms [and] it’s a motel setting.”
Carter reported that the accommodations were actually a double queen room, which Zakiya and her husband were expected to share with another couple. Furthermore, a check of the website indicated that the package included two queen-sized beds, not suites.
Another complaint from Zakiya involved the on-site spa, which she alleged was falsely advertised. She also claimed that the group’s morning yoga session took place in the hotel lobby.
“They’re doing downward dog where people were eating breakfast,” she alleged.
Was It A Scam?
Zakiya accused the group of “false advertising everything from the suite to the Nordic spa.” However, Emmanuel Jones, the lead organizer of Black Ski Weekend, told Carter that Zakiya’s claims are “fabricated.” He also suggested that her allegations might be intended to “harm” his brand.
