Blues Brothers Comic Book Features Belushi-Era Live Album

After an impressive 45 years since its original release, the iconic film Blues Brothers is set to receive a thrilling comic book sequel that will delight fans. This much-anticipated project is a collaboration between Z2 and the families of Blues Brothers stars Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, resulting in a graphic novel titled The Blues Brothers: The Escape of Joliet Jake. In addition, deluxe editions of this captivating book will include an exclusive live album, The Lost Recordings, featuring previously unreleased performances by Belushi, Aykroyd, and the classic Blues Brothers band.

Fans can get an early glimpse into the comic book world of The Blues Brothers: The Escape of Joliet Jake with a four-page preview, along with a sneak peek of “Soul Man,” a track from the new album included below.

This exciting book is co-written by Stella Aykroyd (daughter of Dan Aykroyd) and Luke Pisano (son of John Belushi’s wife, Judy Belushi Pisano), with creative oversight provided by Dan Aykroyd himself.

At the conclusion of the original film, Aykroyd’s character, Elwood Blues, and Belushi’s character, Jake Blues, successfully navigated a chaotic series of car chases and a massive manhunt to save their childhood orphanage, although they ended up incarcerated as a result of their daring escapades. According to the new book’s synopsis, Jake ultimately manages to escape:

Set in 1997, nearly two decades after the events of the original Blues Brothers film, Chicago law enforcement is once again on the trail of the notorious musical fugitive, Jake Blues, following a mysterious jailbreak. The story introduces Robert, an ambitious detective whose life is turned upside down when he begins investigating Jake’s case. He receives unexpected assistance from Elwood Blues, leading to an unlikely alliance with Wolfie, an orphan from the Blues Brothers’ alma mater, St. Helen’s of the Blessed Shroud. Together, they will uncover a tangled web of mysteries connected to the adventures of Jake and Elwood that fans have never seen before! Dive into an electrifying new chapter filled with recidivist mischief, soulful music, and exhilarating car chases.

“It makes perfect sense that the new generation of Blues Brothers will debut in comic book form, where the possibilities for destruction, absurdity, and wild collaborations are virtually limitless,” co-writer James Werner stated in a recent press release. “The universe of The Blues Brothers is rich with music and comedic elements that defy convention.”
