Bring Me the Horizon has expressed their surprise and gratitude for the unexpected support from Liam Gallagher following their recent cover of Oasis’ iconic “Wonderwall” for Spotify Singles earlier this year. The band, known for their innovative sound, took the classic Britpop anthem and transformed it into a heavier, more atmospheric rendition that showcases their unique style and musical evolution.
The band, who reimagined the timeless hit, admitted they were genuinely astonished by Gallagher’s positive feedback. This reaction from Gallagher, a legendary figure in the music industry, was unexpected, further highlighting the significance of their reinterpretation and the respect they hold for the original artists. Their cover not only pays homage to Oasis but also demonstrates Bring Me the Horizon’s ability to engage with their roots while pushing musical boundaries.
“It’s a good song, it’s actually one of my favorites. Top five,” said frontman Oli Sykes while discussing the track with NME on the red carpet at the BRIT Awards 2025. “We usually cover tracks that are less known, so this time we thought, ‘Let’s try to reimagine something that’s universally recognized. Make it a bit easier for ourselves.’ I think it turned out pretty well! It was surprising that Liam didn’t criticize it harshly…”
Drummer Mat Nicholls shared similar thoughts, recognizing the profound influence of Oasis on contemporary British musicians. “We definitely grew up listening to them. Their music is hard to ignore, especially at our age, because Oasis is a significant part of British music history. We were anticipating [Liam] to really go after us, but instead, he said some genuinely nice things! It was a great experience, and I think it went down better than we could have hoped.”
Gallagher previously took to social media to express his enthusiasm for the cover, declaring, “I f—ing LOVE it.” When a fan speculated that his brother Noel might not be pleased, Liam responded emphatically: “I’m not, it’s absolutely incredible, made my day. I’m off out on my skateboard, f— y’all.” His enthusiastic reaction not only highlights the respect he has for the band but also adds to the ongoing conversation surrounding their musical collaboration.
The BRIT Awards represented yet another significant achievement for the band, who won the award for Best Alternative/Rock Act in 2024. This year, they were nominated for Group of the Year but ultimately lost to Ezra Collective. The continued recognition at such prestigious events underlines their growing influence and popularity within the music industry.
Looking ahead, the band is set to headline the Reading & Leeds Festival 2025, joining renowned artists like Travis Scott, Chappell Roan, and Hozier. This will mark their second appearance as headliners at this iconic twin-site festival, following their successful co-headlining performance with Arctic Monkeys in 2022. Their participation in such major events reflects their status as one of the leading acts in the contemporary rock scene.
