Colleen Hoover has brought another one of her novels to the big screen. The author, known for It Ends With Us and Regretting You, collaborated with a new cast and crew to adapt Reminders of Him, which tells the story of Kenna Rowan as she fights to regain custody of her daughter, Diem, after serving time in prison for a car accident involving her late boyfriend, Scotty Landry.
As is typical with adaptations from book to film, the Reminders of Him movie diverges from Colleen’s original work, which fans have noted.
Here’s everything you need to know about Reminders of Him.
Reminders of Him Movie Cast: Meet the Actors
Maika Monroe, recognized for her roles in horror films, portrays Kenna Rowan in the movie. Kenna is an ex-convict who spent seven years in prison due to a car accident. The main cast also includes Lauren Graham as Grace Landry, Bradley Whitford as Patrick Landry, Lainey Wilson as Amy, and Jennifer Robertson as Ruth.

What’s Different Between the Reminders of Him Movie vs. the Book?
Fans of the original novel have pointed out a significant difference between the film and the book: the exclusion of a sex scene between Kenna and Ledger. Although the scene was filmed, it ultimately did not make it into the final cut.
“I shot it. We shot it,” director Vanessa Caswill stated in an interview with People. “And it’s not there, sadly.” When asked if including that graphic intimacy would have impacted the film’s PG-13 rating, Vanessa acknowledged that it might have. “Partly. Actually, the studio really loved the sex scene. They were like, ‘This is a good sex scene!’” she added.
In another interview with Deadline, Vanessa discussed her approach to directing an adaptation of Colleen’s book.
“I feel like if there is source material, for me personally, I really want to delve into that source material. I treat all those projects as if they are sacred texts and find many clues and insights that wouldn’t be available if I only had the screenplay,” she explained. “I value the book highly and am well aware that Colleen Hoover has a large fan base who love this book. My goal was to create something that A) Colleen felt was true to her book and B) that her fans would appreciate. The only way to achieve this is by capturing the essence of everything in the book as much as possible. It’s challenging because every reader has their own interpretation; thus, pleasing everyone is impossible. However, I believe that the core essence of what Colleen wrote is present on screen.”
