Breaking Bad Icon’s New Crime Series Surges on Streaming Charts

Giancarlo Esposito will always be famous for his role as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad, but last year he headlined a crime thriller in a similar vein that’s blowing up on streaming. Esposito stars alongside Zackary Momoh and Paula Malcolmson in Parish, the 2024 crime thriller following a car service owner with unique driving skills who finds himself in a sticky situation where the sins of his past are brought into the light of his future. Parish is an AMC series that’s currently streaming on Netflix, and it’s having a revival moment that’s lifted it back into the global top 10.

Parish was panned by critics upon release, so much so that it earned a Rotten 33% on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. The audience-driven Popcornmeter landed at a score that’s more than double this, though — it currently sits at 76%. Skeet Ulrich also has a recurring role in Parish, which was written and created for TV by Daniel Brocklehurst. It’s based on the novel The Driver by Jim Poyser, who also worked closely with the show’s writing team to bring it to life on the screen. It’s drawn plenty of comparisons to Breaking Bad, which also features a troubled protagonist (Bryan Cranston) who gets in deep with the wrong people.

Esposito’s role as Gus Fring will live on as the most famous of his career, but he also recently joined the biggest movie franchise in the world. Esposito suited up in the MCU’s first movie in 2025, Captain America: Brave New World, opposite Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson. He can even be seen in The Boys universe as Stan Edgar, where he recently appeared in the second season of the teen offshoot, Gen V.

Giancarlo Esposito Is a TV Legend

Esposito has also had notable roles in plenty of other TV shows recently, including The Mandalorian, where he played Moff Gideon across all three seasons of the Star Wars Disney+ show. He also had a role in the first season of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix show, The Gentlemen, but it’s unclear if he’ll return in Season 2. Esposito has been nominated for an Emmy six times in his career, but the award has evaded him since his first nomination 13 years ago. If he does get a win, it’s going to be a monumental moment in TV history.

Be sure to check out all episodes of Parish on Netflix and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
