Bridgerton Season 4: Explanation for Jonathan Bailey’s Absence

Jonathan Bailey‘s yellow brick road hasn’t led him back to Mayfair just yet.

Indeed, the Wicked actor was MIA in the first part of Bridgerton season four—which hit Netflix on January 29—as his character Anthony Bridgerton and wife Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) don’t appear in the four-episode drop.

And knowing they would be sorely missed, the Regency era show addressed the reason behind their absence at the top of the first episode.

Their family’s housekeeper Mrs. Wilson (Geraldine Alexander) casually mentions the viscount and viscountess’ whereabouts to her fellow servants while watching Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and wife Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) fuss over their newborn baby.

“They’re sweet as long as you are not the one who has to look after them and mind their cries,” she remarks of the couple’s son. “I, for one, am glad the viscountess had her baby in India.”

To which a maid swiftly replies, “I cannot wait to meet the little heir when they return.”
