BritBox Renews Hit Reboot of Classic Detective Series

Even in America, the British mystery is one of the most popular genres of movies and shows. Look no further than Peaky Blinders, which is admittedly more of a crime series than pure mystery, has not-so-quietly become one of the most popular shows on Netflix around the world, especially in America. Another hit British mystery series to emerge in the last few years is Lynley, which is based on The Inspector Lynley novels from the New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth George. The first season of Lynley, which consisted of four episodes, aired last September, and the fate of the show has been hanging in the balance in the months since its premiere. This was despite acclaim from critics, who reviewed the series at a certified fresh 91% clip on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

This morning, the BBC and BritBox finally confirmed that Lynley has been renewed for Season 2, with production set to begin immediately. While an official release date was not announced, it’s expected to return before the end of this year. The BBC has also released an official synopsis for Season 2 of Lynley, which reads as follows:

“In Season Two of Lynley, the mismatched duo of Detective Inspector Tommy Lynley and Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers return to investigate another series of complex and compelling crimes — from a suspicious death at an elite horse racing estate, to violent protests at a Cambridge university, to a mysterious suicide on an Essex military base. As the cases unfold, Lynley confronts lingering ties to his estranged aristocratic family and the allure of a formidable new Chief Superintendent in the Three Counties precinct. Meanwhile, Havers pursues a newfound independence and ambition that test her professional and personal boundaries like never before. Together, Lynley and Havers continue to build on their hard-earned mutual respect, relying on each other to solve cases that strike dangerously close to home.”
