Renowned music icon Bruce Springsteen has unveiled a new single, just weeks ahead of the eagerly awaited release of Tracks II: The Lost Albums. This extensive seven-LP collection compiles a treasure trove of previously unreleased songs that span the years from 1983 to 2018, showcasing Springsteen’s evolution as an artist throughout the decades.
The track “Adelita” is featured on Inyo, a unique album consisting of ten songs that Springsteen recorded in the vibrant 1990s. This collection draws inspiration from his exhilarating motorcycle adventures across the stunning landscapes of the Southwest. It captures the essence of freedom and exploration that defined that chapter of his life.
You can listen to “Adelita,” a powerful tribute to Mexico’s female fighters for independence, embedded below to experience its profound message and musical artistry.
Springsteen elaborated on the creation of Inyo in a recent press release, sharing that he penned the songs while journeying through California. He often found himself on long drives alongside the California aqueduct, making his way through Inyo County to iconic destinations like Yosemite and Death Valley. This album represents a significant moment in his creative process, reflecting his artistic journey during that time.
He expressed, “I was reveling in that style of songwriting. During the The Ghost of Tom Joad tour, I’d return to my hotel room at night, continuing to write in that vein, thinking I would follow up The Ghost of Tom Joad with something similar, but that didn’t happen. This is the origin of Inyo, and it remains one of my personal favorites.”
While Inyo largely features Springsteen’s solo work, it also includes collaborations with talented mariachi musicians, including the standout track “Adelita.” According to a press release, several songs on this album delve into themes surrounding the Mexican diaspora, exploring the profound impacts of border crossing between Mexico and the U.S., as well as the cultural losses experienced over generations.
