Jalmari Helander teases Sisu 3, says trouble could find Aatami again
In an exclusive interview with MovieWeb, director Jalmari Helander discussed the future of the Sisu franchise following the release of Sisu: Road to Revenge.
He described the sequel’s conclusion as both “an ending and a rebirth,” indicating that while the narrative feels resolved, there is still potential for Aatami Korpi’s return. Helander stated, “I don’t know yet. For me, it feels like a perfect ending also. Like, maybe Aatami may have found something that whatever piece or purpose he could have anymore, maybe that’s their thing, but I don’t know, maybe trouble finds him again.”

Helander, who directed and wrote both Sisu films, reflected on the sequel’s meaningful final scene, which depicts Aatami “tearing down his home and rebuilding it elsewhere.” The filmmaker shared, “When I had the idea for the last scene, it really changed the game for me because I knew that it would elevate the film to a different level, and that’s something I’m most proud of the film also.”
The original Sisu introduced Jorma Tommila as Aatami Korpi, an ex-Finnish commando turned prospector who battles Nazis after they steal his gold. Sisu: Road to Revenge continues his journey as he seeks revenge against the Red Army commander responsible for his family’s death.
The film achieved a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and strong box office numbers, indicating audience interest in another installment. Helander’s remarks suggest that while a third film has not been confirmed, the possibility of Aatami’s return remains open.
