Buffy Reboot Cancellation: Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Insights

Would Kerry Washington Return for a ‘Scandal’ Reboot? She Says…

Sarah Michelle Gellar will not be returning to combat the forces of darkness after all.

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum announced that a planned reboot of the supernatural drama—which was set to debut on Hulu—is no longer in development at the streaming service.

“I am really sad to have to share this, but I wanted you all to hear it from me,” she stated in a video posted on Instagram on March 14. “Unfortunately, Hulu has decided not to move forward with Buffy: New Sunnydale.”

Sarah, 48, was set to executive produce the series alongside Oscar winner Chloé Zhao—who also directed the first episode of the unaired sequel series—and she expressed gratitude to the filmmaker for the opportunity to reprise her iconic role.

“I never thought I would find myself back in Buffy’s stylish yet affordable boots,” Sarah continued. “Thanks to Chloé, I was reminded how much I love her, and how much she means not only to me, but to all of you. And this doesn’t change any of that.”
