A new trailer for Fallout season 2 teased the return of the biggest villains from Fallout: New Vegas. The Fallout show has always been rich with references to the Fallout games, from familiar settings to subtle Easter eggs and more. Fallout season 2 is set to continue that trend, especially as the cast of Fallout heads to New Vegas in the Mojave Wasteland.
As Lucy, the Ghoul, and Maximus reach New Vegas, they’ll have a whole host of new problems to deal with. The Mojave Wasteland is filled with dangers, and after the destruction of the New California Republic in Fallout season 1, there won’t be many people keeping them in check. The ending of Fallout season 1 also set the stage for the return of Caesar’s Legion.
Fallout Season 2’s Trailer Included Some Members Of Caesar’s Legion
There were a lot of reveals in the first trailer for Fallout season 2, from Deathclaws to Mr. House, but one of the biggest references may have flown under the radar. For just a few seconds, the Fallout season 2 trailer highlighted Caesar’s Legion, the most infamous villains from Fallout: New Vegas. Lucy was seemingly being led into a Legion camp, and a few Legionnaires were cheering among themselves.
For those who haven’t played the games, Caesar’s Legion is a major faction in Fallout: New Vegas. Modeled after the Roman Empire, the Legion controlled huge swaths of America in the post-war world, and they were trying to invade the Mojave Wasteland during the events of the game. The Legion is also noted for its brutality, as they often employed crucifixion as a punishment and held countless slaves.
It’s up to the player to decide their fate, but the Legion could either control the Mojave or have been driven out by the NCR. Regardless, it’s clear that Caesar’s Legion will be in Fallout season 2, at least in some capacity. Given the group’s noted expansionism and desire to control the Mojave Wasteland, it’s safe to assume they’re trying to take over New Vegas.
How Caesar’s Legion Can Be In The Mojave During The Fallout Show’s Timeline
The Fallout show takes place 15 years after the events of New Vegas. That means the show will have to decide, one way or another, what the Courier decided to do during the Battle of Hoover Dam, the deciding moment in the fight for the Mojave Wasteland. The explanation for why Caesar’s Legion is still (or back) in the Mojave hinges on the Courier’s actions.
If the Courier chose to side with Caesar’s Legion, then the explanation is simple. The Courier would have saved Caesar from his brain tumor, delivered the entire region to his armies, and they would have controlled the Mojave for the 15 years that have passed. Caesar probably even had time to choose a successor in that scenario, presumably Legate Lucius.

If the Courier sided with anyone else, the answer gets more muddy. Caesar’s Legion would almost certainly be forced to flee East after being defeated at Hoover Dam, regardless of who won. It’s possible that it took the Legion 15 years to regroup and recoup enough strength for another attack on the Mojave. That could be why there’s a new camp in theFallout season 2 trailer.
There’s also the possibility that Caesar’s Legion conducted a scorched Earth retreat after their defeat at Hoover Dam. They may have invaded New Vegas during their retreat and, if Mr. House was killed by the Courier, destroyed the city to keep the NCR from taking it. Regardless of the circumstances, it seems Caesar’s Legion still wants control of the Mojave inFallout season 2.
