Career-Best Performance by Lucy Liu in New Movie


Vertical has shared the official trailer for Rosemead, its upcoming psychological drama led by Emmy Award nominee Lucy Liu. The movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters starting on December 5, 2025.

“The film follows an ailing woman who takes drastic measures to protect her troubled teenage son. As his dark obsessions grow and time runs out, she is forced to make impossible choices: how far will she go and what is she willing to sacrifice? Set against the simmering tensions of a Chinese American community, Rosemead is a gripping portrait of a family pushed to the edge,” reads the official synopsis.

What happens in the Rosemead trailer?

The video introduces Liu as an immigrant mother with a terminal illness who discovers her son’s violent tendencies. She must find a way to protect him from himself before it’s too late. The trailer also highlights Liu’s career-defining performance as Irene, which Gazettely’s Zhi Ho described as her best one to date. Following its world premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Festival, Liu won multiple awards at different film festivals, including Artistic Achievement Award (Philadelphia Film Festival), Precious Gem Award (Miami Film Festival), Réalta Award (Belfast Film Festival), and John Cassavetes Award (Denver Film Festival).

Rosemead is directed by Eric Lin from a screenplay written by Marilyn Fu, based on a harrowing true story. The movie also stars Lawrence Shou, Orion Lee, Jennifer Lim, Madison Hu, and James Chen. It is produced by Liu, Mynette Louie, and Andrew D. Corkin. Executive producers are Theo James, Eric Lin, Julia Xu, San Demetrio Arte, Chris Argentieri, Frank Shyong, Jamie Lin, Peng Zhao, Chiling Lin, Je Yang, Daniela Ruiz, and Julia Gouw.
