"Boston Rob" Mariano and his family experienced an unexpected incident during their vacation in beautiful Mexico.
On June 16, the former Survivor champion revealed on social media that his and wife Amber Mariano’s 14-year-old daughter, Carina, encountered a painful situation while enjoying a day on the golf course. She “got poked by this plant yesterday,” which led to an urgent trip to the hospital that same night. This unfortunate event underscores the potential dangers of seemingly harmless flora, especially in unfamiliar environments.
Rob shared, “She had a pretty severe reaction to the plant and was in a lot of pain,” detailing her experience on Instagram Stories. The medical team conducted an ultrasound to investigate potential spinal issues but instead discovered an alarming amount of fluid accumulating in her knee where the plant had pricked her. They prescribed a course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatories to address her symptoms and aid in her recovery.
Fortunately, after receiving the necessary medical treatment, Carina began to feel “much better,” much to the relief of her father, Rob, who also has three other daughters: Lucia, 15, Isabetta, 13, and Adelina, 10, with Amber. This incident emphasizes the importance of being cautious and informed about local plant life while traveling, as even a seemingly simple excursion can lead to unforeseen complications.
In an effort to educate others, Rob posted a picture of the offending plant, identifying it as El Datilillo, commonly known as ‘The Spanish Dagger.’ This serves as a reminder to always be aware of one’s surroundings and the potential hazards that nature can present, especially in tropical locations.
This family vacation comes almost a month after Carina celebrated her successful graduation from middle school. At that time, Rob humorously shared that he “cried like a baby” over his daughter’s significant academic achievement, illustrating the pride and joy he feels as a parent.
