Chainsaw Man’s Ending: 5 Surprises and 5 Unresolved Mysteries

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR CHAINSAW MAN MANGA CHAPTER #232

Denji’s story came to an arguably abrupt ending in the Chainsaw Man manga. Its conclusion included lots of surprises and, unfortunately, a few loose ends that fans may never see tied up.

When it was announced that Part 2 of the manga would be reaching its conclusion, Denji’s battle against the War Devil was changing landscapes and even the fabric of reality. It was a situation that almost no one could have predicted how it would end.

The way that mangaka Tatsuki Fujimoto decided to end his hit series managed to create enough pleasant surprises and resolutions to satisfy a lot of fans. However, not all of them were pleased with Chainsaw Man‘s ending, which did not confirm a Part 3 continuation, but it did leave things open for an eventual return thanks to some unanswered mysteries.

10 Surprise: Power To The Rescue

Throughout Chainsaw Man Part 1 and Part 2, several character deaths shocked fans. However, few shook the fan base like the death of Power. When she sacrificed herself to save Denji, they had a touching conversation that provided hope that she or her reincarnation would reappear, but years went by with no Power.

After Denji’s canine Devil companion used their special power on themselves, they reset reality in a way that meant that the Chainsaw Devil never existed. Because of that, they were not there to save Denji when he was betrayed to the Zombie Devil, but Power was.

Chainsaw Man Ending Explained: What Happens To Denji In The Finale?

After almost eight years of taking the world by storm, Chainsaw Man seems to have finally come to an end, and here’s how it all went down.

With things reset, Power still lived, and her fateful meeting with Denji put them together once again. Bringing her back into the story and setting up a life where she and Denji get to work/live together again created a far more comfortable ending than most fans expected for a series that’s not been afraid to be cruel to its characters.

9 Unexplained: The Chainsaw Devil’s Erasure Powers

Devils throughout the Chainsaw Man story represent the physical manifestation of humans’ fears of specific concepts. The stronger the fear, the stronger the Devil, but that fails to explain the Chainsaw Devil’s most feared ability. An ability so great that powerful figures like Makima and the War Devil hunted Denji to manipulate it for their own means.

Besides being able to grow chainsaws from his body, the Chainsaw Devil was able to eat other Devils, causing the concepts they were based on to be wiped from human history, including from people’s memories. Such an ability has nothing to do with chainsaws, and why Denji’s canine companion had such a powerful ability was never fully explored.

8 Surprise: Control Devil Nayuta Lives

In both situations where Denji was forced into a brutal confrontation with the Zombie Devil, the Control Devil arrived in the morning. However, chapter #232 included a very different version of the character than what fans saw in the story’s very beginning.

Instead of the striking Makima swooping in and taking ownership of Denji, the young girl Nayuta arrived to meet the newly bonded Power and Denji. Besides the Blood Devil, the young girl was one of the more cruel losses that fans endured during the Chainsaw Man story.

Nayuta and Denji created a touching bond after he did his best to give her a loving home. Unfortunately, none of Chainsaw Man‘s characters seem to remember their previous lives. Still, they all sense a familiarity with one another, which leads them to all work together once again, with the young Control Devil managing the Devil Hunters once again.

Unresolved: What Brought Pochita and Denji Together

Another unexplored plot thread that went unanswered was how the weak and injured Pochita wound up with the young Denji? The Chainsaw Devil was hyped up to be one of the most feared, but when we meet him, he’s in the form of an adorable dog with a small chainsaw blade coming out of his forehead.

Denji will be back in the next thrilling anime installation of Chainsaw Man.

Fans would go on to see Pochita’s much more intimidating form, but exploring how he was initially injured and sent to Earth could have been an excuse to introduce an intimidating new foe or provide a great reason for the story to explore more of Hell and the terrifying Primal Devils that reside there.

The chaotic pair found a sort of kinship and chemistry that was a riot to witness. Their dynamic was sorely missed throughout Part 2, which leads to why chapter #232’s ending for the two characters is so satisfying.

After being discovered by Nayuta, Denji and Power are recruited to once again work as Devil Hunters. Killing Devils together with their fellow roommate Aki created arguably some of their happiest times. The story leaves them once again living those happy times.

The ending of Chainsaw Man Part 2 spoiled many fans by bringing many beloved characters back from death. While it was incredibly exciting to see Nayuta and Power come back, Denji’s other tragic roommate Aki Hayakawa was nowhere to be seen in this finale for good reason.

Aki originally joined the Devil Hunters to take down Gun Devil. If Gun Devil never left Hell then Aki’s family would still be alive leading him not joining up with Devil Hunters eventually leading him rooming with Denji and Power.

Unless Chainsaw Man Part 3 comes out fans can only speculate on full scope Pochita’s decision and fates characters might still be alive because of it. While story failed answering all its questions it left Denji with happier Chainsaw Man ending than most expected.
