Chloe Malle Named Head of Editorial Content at American Vogue

We genuinely do not know where you’ve been if you weren’t aware that Anna Wintour had announced her departure from American Vogue. Back in June, after a monumental 37-year tenure, Wintour was to give up her position as editor-in-chief (while remaining as global editorial director of Vogue). The formidable fashion icon has since been on the hunt for a replacement. Names like Chioma Nnadi, Edward Enninful, Eva Chen, and Amy Astley have been thrown around as Wintour’s potential successor. Unsurprisingly, however, Wintour has selected editor Chloe Malle as American Vogue Head of Editorial Content, plucked right up from under the Condé Nast umbrella. Malle, the daughter of actress Candice Bergen and the late director Louis Malle, has served as the editor of Vogue.com since 2023 – with her new role effective immediately.

“Boring.” [caioherrero]

“I like her on the podcast, but I kind of get the impression that she doesn’t care about fashion at all. Vanity Fair probably would’ve made more sense for her.” [Yohji]

“Given that she has to work under the supervision of Anna, I guess it’s the most logical and safe choice for Vogue at this time. Hopefully she has convictions, a taste of her own but also a vision to make her Vogue feel fresh and slightly different from Anna’s.” [Lola701]

“Major UGH at this news. It’s just completely bewildering to me how someone who appears to have zero interest in fashion gets the top job at American Vogue. Not excited at the thought of Chloe Malle heading up US Vogue, whatsoever. Another win for nepotism, I guess.” [vogue28]

“How much power do we think she will actually have, though? It seems to me like Anna will continue to be very influential behind closed doors.” [blushells]

“Not surprising. No offense to her but the Vogue.com and its content haven’t been great in a long time, so not expecting anything major to change with the current state of the magazine either. One can hope tho!” [aa2005]
