Former Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler is embarking on an exciting new journey with the band Firstborne, but his musical endeavors don’t stop there. In a recent interview with Blabbermouth, Adler revealed that following his departure from Lamb of God, a legendary thrash band reached out to discuss his potential involvement, showcasing the demand for his drumming talent.
During the interview, Adler was asked if he continues to receive offers for various projects. He confirmed, stating, “It still happens, yes. In the past month, I’ve done maybe three or four for-hire things.” He explained that he can undertake these projects from his home studio, allowing him the flexibility to explore diverse opportunities while continuing to hone his craft.
Adler expressed his enthusiasm for challenging himself through “for hire” projects that extend beyond his well-known work with Lamb of God. “I know people are going to expect me to do what I did in Lamb, but I want to push myself and explore new musical territories. Part of this new chapter is about experiencing something different,” he shared, emphasizing his desire for growth in his musical career.
He then revealed that shortly after his departure from Lamb of God, one of the first calls he received was from the renowned rock band Testament. “I don’t think they would mind saying it. I think Gene Hoglan was leaving Testament, and they got in touch right away. That was right when I decided to start chapter two,” he recounted, highlighting the immediate interest from established artists in his skills.
Hoglan exited Testament in 2022, and although former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo temporarily filled the role, the band ultimately chose Chris Dovas as their current drummer in 2023. Adler mentioned that he was contacted to assess his interest in joining, revealing how highly regarded he is within the music community.
“There were a lot of things going on. I was in the middle of a terrible divorce; my mom just died. I got diagnosed with an issue that was making things a lot more difficult at the time. It wasn’t right for me,” Adler reflected on the personal challenges that led him to decline the opportunity. “There are opportunities, but I’m enjoying, right now, saying yes to the ones I like and being comfortable enough to turn some things down,” he added, showcasing his focus on personal well-being and artistic direction.
