The Sticky aims to create a cultural impact in Quebec similar to what Fargo achieved in Minnesota, and Chris Diamantopolous has expressed his admiration for the talented star Margo Martindale.

Recently, Prime Video released all six episodes of The Sticky, an engaging blend of comedy and crime that features the exceptional Margo Martindale in the role of Ruth Landry, a Canadian maple syrup farmer embroiled in a scheme to steal millions of dollars worth of syrup. This intriguing narrative draws inspiration from a real-life heist that occurred in Quebec, adding a layer of authenticity. Joining her in this captivating cast are notable actors like Jamie Lee Curtis, who also serves as a producer alongside Jason Blum, and the versatile Chris Diamantopolous. His extensive career includes roles in acclaimed series such as The Office and Silicon Valley, as well as voicing Mickey Mouse for Disney, a role that has earned him two Emmy nominations.
Not long ago, I had the opportunity to sit down with Diamantopolous, who shared insights about The Sticky and expressed his hopes for it to evolve into a long-running crime caper on Prime Video. A unique aspect of the show is its commitment to portraying Canada authentically. Filming took place in Montreal, featuring numerous Quebecois actors in significant roles, which stands in contrast to the common practice of casting Parisian actors to represent Quebecers, a trend that often undermines the cultural integrity of the narrative.
?What excites me most is that The Sticky represents a television show filmed in Canada, set in Canada, showcasing the country as a legitimate player in the cinematic landscape,? he remarked, emphasizing the importance of authenticity in storytelling.
?It delves into Montreal?s underbelly, revealing a darkness in the Quebecois rural backdrop that evokes comparisons to Fargo. This is truly a Canadian story presented in a way that mirrors how Dublin is represented in Irish narratives, without resorting to parody.?
Diamantopolous expressed his admiration for Martindale, who skillfully transitions into a leading role in The Sticky. He remarked, ?She is incredibly talented, filled with dynamic energy and charisma. She embodies professionalism and is a true class act.?
Another point he highlighted is the evolving landscape of streaming services, where shorter seasons can lead to enhanced quality. He noted, ?This format keeps audiences engaged and eliminates the unrealistic pressure to produce 12 to 22 episodes of high-quality content, which is often unsustainable. Even The Office had to reduce its episodes per season later on due to the challenges of maintaining quality.?
Looking ahead, Diamantopolous is set to appear in the adaptation of Ed Brubaker?s acclaimed series Criminal. He mentioned, ?I believe they plan to release this series as events. The first features Charlie Hunnam and Richard Jenkins, and I?ve heard that it?s going to be spectacular. I?m part of the second event, starring Emilia Clarke. Working with her was an incredible experience, and Luke Evans is also involved. The world they?ve crafted is truly impressive.?
The Sticky is currently available for streaming on Prime Video and is a must-watch for anyone looking for an entertaining binge during the holiday season. Check out our detailed review HERE!
