Christian Horner has publicly addressed his departure from the renowned Oracle Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team, marking a significant moment in the world of motorsport.
The 51-year-old visionary played a pivotal role in establishing the team in the competitive arena of F1 back in 2005, and he has been at the helm for an impressive 20 years, serving as both team principal and CEO.
On Wednesday, July 9, merely three days after the thrilling British Grand Prix, it was officially announced that he would no longer be overseeing operations at Red Bull Racing, effective immediately. In a strategic move, Laurent Mekies, the principal of the sister team Racing Bulls, has been elevated to lead the main team, while Alan Permane, the Racing Director, has received a promotion to team principal.
Several hours after the announcement, Christian chose to break his silence by sharing a heartfelt statement on his Instagram page, reflecting on his time with the team.

“After an incredible journey spanning two decades, it is with a heavy heart that I bid farewell to a Team that I have cherished deeply. All of you at the factory, the remarkable individuals behind our success, have been the heartbeat of all that we have accomplished together. Through victories and losses, we have stood united, and I will forever hold those memories close. It has been a privilege to lead such an exceptional Team, and I take immense pride in our collective achievements,” Christian expressed.
“I extend my gratitude to our amazing partners and loyal fans who have been integral in our racing journey. Your unwavering support has transformed the team from its modest beginnings into an F1 powerhouse that has proudly secured six Constructors’ Championships and eight Drivers’ Championships.
“I also want to acknowledge our rivals, for without them, the essence of racing would not exist. Your relentless challenges have pushed us to strive for excellence, and together we have achieved remarkable accolades that once seemed unattainable. Each victory has been made sweeter by the fierce competition, and every challenge has provided us with opportunities to innovate and improve,” he added.
“Formula 1 is a discipline characterized by unyielding ambition, fervor, and mutual respect. The rivalries we share are intense, yet the shared drive for innovation and excellence is what has made this journey truly remarkable.
It has been an honor to be part of this extraordinary chapter in motorsport history. I leave with immense pride in our accomplishments and excitement for what lies ahead in 2026 — while holding deep respect for all who have contributed to making F1 the pinnacle of racing excellence today. Thank you,” he concluded.
Christian also highlighted his numerous achievements with the team throughout the years, which include six Constructors’ Championship titles, eight Drivers’ titles, 124 race victories, 12 sprint race wins, 287 podium finishes, 107 pole positions, and 100 fastest laps.
