Chucky Movie Development Reveals Exciting First Details

Chucky is preparing for more chaotic adventures, with a new movie in development that aims to return the franchise to its roots.

What do we know about the new Chucky movie?

According to franchise creator Don Mancini (via Bloody Disgusting), a new Chucky movie is in the works. The report from Bloody Disgusting also indicates that the goal is to make the new movie “scary” and to return to some of the earlier films, which remained frightening while also preserving Chucky’s playful and humorous nature as a horror icon. Additionally, it mentions that the intention is to release the movie in theaters, rather than as a straight-to-digital release.

This news follows Jennifer Tilly, a mainstay of Chucky, teasing that a new project in the Chuckyverse was on the way. During her appearance at Steel City Con this past weekend, Mancini confirmed this but did not provide extensive details. To date, there have been eight movies in the Child’s Play franchise; however, the latest film, 2019’s Child’s Play, acted more as a potential reboot of the franchise and did not involve Mancini.

The most recent Chucky film that Mancini wrote and directed was 2017’s Cult of Chucky, which was released direct-to-video and starred Fiona Dourif, Michael Therriault, Adam Hurtig, Alex Vincent, Jennifer Tilly, and Brad Dourif. The Chucky television show, which aired for three seasons before its cancellation in 2024, served as a sequel series to that movie.

Currently, it remains unclear if the upcoming Chucky movie will incorporate elements from the TV show, but it is likely to feature many of the recurring characters from the Chucky films, as Mancini often collaborates with the same cast across multiple films.
