Marvel is teasing a new Civil War-esque showdown for Iron Man, though the Armored Avenger might not like how the battle lines have been drawn. Receiving a brand-new ongoing series, Iron Man’s new run promises some cool new suits and an exciting new era for Tony Stark…as well as some major conflict.
As seen in Joshua Williamson and Carmen Carnero’s new Iron Man #1, AIM is attempting to re-create their own Tony Stark for some new master scheme. As such, this first issue teases some major reveals ahead, putting Iron Man in the crosshairs of more than one major Marvel hero.
A New Era Has Come For Iron Man With A Brand-New Marvel Series
Iron Man #1 from Joshua Williamson wastes no time establishing the stakes. AIM is actively kidnapping some of the world’s greatest minds, all of whom were personally handpicked by Tony Stark as people he’d want to work with. They also look to be forcing these geniuses into the same origins that led to Stark building his first suit of armor in a cave.
As a result, this first issue sees Stark determined to rescue all these geniuses from AIM with Iron Man’s new Mark 75 armor. However, Tony also seems to have an idea of what the sinister science organization is after, connected to a dark new secret Stark has apparently been holding onto for years.
Hold Up, Why Are So Many Marvel Heroes Turning On Iron Man?
Iron Man #1’s final pages see Tony reaching out to Captain America for help, clearly worried AIM is after old contingencies Stark designed years ago for “a new nightmare” he once had.
However, it looks as though Steve Rogers was already made aware of the problem before Tony called. Ending the call, it’s revealed that Rogers is joined by Captain Marvel, Reed and Sue Richards, War Machine, Amadeus Cho, and even Norman Osborn, all of whom have apparently gathered to take down Iron Man himself.
This certainly looks to be the right kind of team who could indeed figure out how to take Iron Man down (friends, major allies, and rival geniuses alike).
With no heroes confirmed to be backing up Stark just yet, Marvel appears to be building toward a new superhero conflict where Iron Man isn’t leading a side this time, but instead fighting everyone else who now views him as a threat to be contained. As such, it’s going to be very exciting to see where Marvel’s new Iron Man series goes next.
