Paramount Pictures is reviving a classic 1960s heist film for a remake, with director Dexter Fletcher set to lead the project.
Which classic heist film is being remade?
According to a recent report from THR, The League of Gentlemen is being remade by Paramount. Fletcher (Rocketman) will direct the film based on a screenplay by Bek Smith (Moana 2). The report from THR indicates that this will be a “modern-day remake” of the original film.
The original movie, directed by Basil Dearden, depicted a group of former British army officers planning a bank robbery in London. It was based on John Boland’s 1958 novel of the same name.
Currently, there is limited information about the remake aside from Fletcher’s involvement. THR mentions that he has been attached to the project since last year. Initially, the project was in development at Skydance but has now moved to Paramount following their merger.
In addition to directing 2019’s Rocketman, Fletcher recently directed the Apple TV film Ghosted, featuring Chris Evans and Ana de Armas. He is also a seasoned actor with a career spanning several films since the 1970s.
