Clipse Guest Verse: Tyler, The Creator’s 100 Takes

In an impressive display of dedication, Tyler, The Creator has disclosed that he recorded his guest verse on Clipse‘s track “P.O.V.” an astounding 100 times to achieve the perfect take. This commitment highlights his relentless pursuit of excellence in hip hop.

During a candid interview on Hot 97, Tyler opened up about the extreme measures he took to ensure he met the high expectations set by Pusha T and No Malice, along with the legendary Pharrell Williams, who produced the track. His dedication to his craft is evident in his meticulous approach to songwriting and recording.

He shared his experience, stating: “It took me about 79 to 100 times to do it, and I almost texted Pusha, ‘I don’t think this is gonna work.’ There were moments when I felt anxious about delivering that verse to two of my icons, and produced by someone I greatly admire. The pressure to not let myself down was immense.”

Tyler also mentioned how he kept Pusha waiting during this process, saying: “It took me so long to write that and just trying to perfect it … I was really in the studio sweating. Pusha sent me that track before I went on tour, probably around April, and I didn’t send it back until the end of May or early June.” His determination to perfect his contribution is a testament to his professionalism and respect for his peers.

He concluded with a sense of relief: “I was trying to record that verse for so long. When it finally came out and people liked it, I felt a huge weight lift off my shoulders. I knew I hadn’t messed up the song, and that was a huge relief.” His reaction highlights the emotional investment artists often have in their work and the joy that comes from positive reception.

In addition to his collaboration with Clipse, Tyler has been actively promoting his own latest album, the surprise release Don’t Tap the Glass, which has soared to the top of the Billboard 200, marking it as his fourth consecutive album to achieve this impressive milestone. This success showcases his evolving artistry and the strong connection he has with his audience.

Despite a shortened release schedule, as Don’t Tap the Glass debuted on a Monday, the album still managed to sell a remarkable 197,000 equivalent units. This figure is particularly noteworthy for 2025, as physical sales played a significant role in its success, with Tyler offering various bundles through his website to maximize sales.

However, the final sales figure fell short of initial projections, which estimated that Don’t Tap the Glass would garner around 215,000 equivalent sales in its first week, indicating the unpredictable nature of the music industry. This performance also represents a notable decline compared to his previous album, Chromakopia, which debuted with an impressive 299,000 equivalent units, marking the biggest sales week of Tyler’s career and achieving the number one spot on the Billboard 200.
