Cory Michael Smith Cast in Upcoming Jeremy Saulnier Film

Rebel Ridge director Jeremy Saulnier is currently assembling the cast for his upcoming cinematic venture, and according to a report by Deadline, Cory Michael Smith is confirmed to take on a leading role. The film is intriguingly titled October, although specific details about the storyline remain scarce. Sources have characterized the new project as a gripping fugitive thriller that unfolds during the vibrant season of Halloween. This setting promises to add an intriguing layer to the narrative, potentially blending suspense with festive elements.

Saulnier will not only direct October but also write the screenplay, with A24 stepping in as the production company. In previous interviews, he has hinted that this film will share thematic similarities with his earlier work, Green Room. He elaborated, stating, “I’m currently writing something that’s a little more in the Green Room universe,” he said. “Because with Rebel Ridge, I was exploring a new side. I was just tired of everything I do being oppressive. But I’ve kinda gone back. It has to do with music and Halloween and fun shit.

In his recent role, Smith showcased his versatility by starring alongside notable actors such as Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, and Ramy Youssef in Mountainhead, a satirical comedy/drama penned and helmed by Succession creator Jesse Armstrong. Additionally, he portrayed the iconic Chevy Chase in Jason Reitman’s film Saturday Night, demonstrating his ability to tackle diverse characters across various genres.

When Rebel Ridge premiered on Netflix last year, it marked the first film from Saulnier in six years, following his previous project, Hold the Dark. Fans will be relieved to know that they won’t have to endure another lengthy wait for his next cinematic offering. In Rebel Ridge, Aaron Pierre stars as Terry Richmond, a former Marine on a crucial mission to bail out his cousin and rescue him from a dire situation. However, when local law enforcement unjustly seizes Terry’s life savings, he finds himself in a fierce confrontation with the local police chief, Sandy Burnne (played by Don Johnson), and his armed officers. With the help of court clerk Summer McBride, portrayed by AnnaSophia Robb, Terry becomes embroiled in a sinister conspiracy that plagues the remote township. As tensions escalate, Terry must leverage his enigmatic past to wrest control from the police and seek justice for his family while ensuring Summer’s safety.

Our reviewer, Chris Bumbray, thoroughly enjoyed Rebel Ridge, deeming it one of the most captivating films that Netflix has released in recent times. His detailed review is available for those who wish to delve deeper into the film’s merits and themes.
